Campus Events Commission - Festivals Director
As the Festivals Director for UCLA's Campus Events Commission (CEC), I oversaw one of the largest film screening programs in the country, acting as creative director for major cultural and film festivals and providing a platform for culture, entertainment, and current events. This was largely a film programming role, involving audience engagement and outreach, as well as planning/designing physical and digital media campaigns. I coordinated cultural festivals (like art, music, and film), film screenings, and high-profile speaker events for over 30,000 students. As a highly creative and logistics-minded individual, I excelled in this role, which required me to conceptualise and manage events from ideation to execution, liaise across multiple teams, and serve as creative director for communication, marketing, and sponsorships. I worked on events live on site and helped coordinate various teams like artists, management, catering, local administration, and more. I worked closely with seven other staffs (online marketing, print, speakers, concerts, public relations, media production, and web development) to market the organization and its events and bolster the overall cultural and social space on our major Los Angeles metropolitan campus. I led weekly/biweekly meetings with my staffers, delegated duties, managed a $9,000 budget for just festivals purposes, and completed all administrative and logistical work in a professional and timely manner.
As a films and festivals staffer and then director of festivals, I also had the privilege of working intimately within the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, making connections with talent and agents from agencies like UTA, CAA, and WME. I also made connections with production companies and studios from which my organization gained the rights and privilege to host advance/sneak screenings (Fresh, Saltburn, La Chimera, Cha Cha Real Smooth, Eileen, Problemista, The Menu, Women Talking, Sing Sing, American Fiction) with talent Q&A sessions from directors, actors, and producers, and premieres to major films and TV shows (Priscilla, Challengers, Beau is Afraid, Mickey 17, Gladiator II, The Iron Claw, Baby Girl, Dream Scenario, Netflix's The Crown). Beyond early screenings and premieres, I also worked to put on retrospective film screenings for students and the general public (Interstellar, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mad Max: Fury Road, Little Women, Call Me By Your Name).
Beyond film screenings, I was also involved in other events like Bruin Bash, a major annual student concert featuring artists like Grammy Award Winner Doechii, DaBaby, Masego, Rico Nasty, and more. CEC also hosts major speaking events with talent like Nathan Fielder and Trixie Mattel. Through CEC I had the opportunity to meet and talk to influential film industry professionals like Sofia Coppolla, Bo Burnham, Molly Shannon, Chloe Troast, Gregg Arraki, James (Jimmy) Duvall, Ashley Liao, Alyson Hannigan, Joshua Kornblit, and more.
